Background



The September 19, 1985 Mexico City was hit by one of the most devastating earthquakes in its history. Recovery after its partial collapse, and its hundreds of victims, wounded and missing accompany a generation that has yet to close this chapter considered the most painful for the entire nation. Likewise, twenty years later, on March 11 of 2011, off the coast of Honshu, Japan, has its epicenter which is considered "The Great East Japan earthquake" causing the generation of a tsunami which increases the power one of the most significant for the Japanese people natural tragedies. How do the people assimilate the status of a catastrophe of this magnitude, overcoming adversity time and returning to his former life system? How can people be heirs of a memory from their own pain and their own pain build your strength? What is the significance of the loss and how this loss may bring such solidarity to strengthen humanitarian cooperation between nations? This project seeks to explain by developing the next program.

The development of this program of work is part of research circuit created by the company "Theatre for the end of the world" in its efforts to provide meaning and memory to the natural, social and political catastrophes countries worldwide and is based in the composition of a poetic multidisciplinary facility, to pay tribute to the memory of the victims of the earthquakes in Mexico and Japan in 1985 and 2011 respectively, with particular emphasis on collective union of its population and brotherhood of two nations to overcome the effects of this type of disaster. Thus, the figure of "Haiku" appears as a revealing element enduring poetic evocation to point toward a unifying concept of hope in the favorable landscape of the way.

Compilation of chronic in both countries; Stage in which a collection of testimonials chronic, place among survivors of the community who lived the events generated by earthquakes in Mexico and Japan. These testimonies are recorded in written form in both languages ​​to have a broad panorama of visions and sensitive link to the events in 1985 and 2011.

Creating haiku in spaces that have been affected; Stage in which, will work with three Mexican poets and three Japanese poets who will be offered the material collected in the previous stage, in the service of poetic creation ten haikus. Thus, there will be a collection of sixty haikus on the memory of both natural disasters in tribute to its victims and in recognition of the work of both towns offer their help

Scenic composition

The actors then begin a process of creative work to incorporate the meaning of the poems to the scene. Thus , it is intended to create a multidisciplinary device where theater , music and poetry, can serve as testimony to the struggle and solidarity between peoples face of adversity .

Period presentations



The presentations of this project is intended to carry out in places where the events that produced the testimony recorded in the chronicles compiled from both casualties and led to the composition of the resulting compendium of haiku occurred.

Thus, a map of Performing interventions will be set to the points raised by the stories of the survivors interviewed, which is primarily symbolic and install a plaque with the haiku that corresponds to what happened in that specific way memorial site.
